Validation of Gomos Ozone Profiles Using Ndsc Lidar: Statistical Comparisons
نویسندگان
چکیده
The lidars deployed in the NDSC framework have been used for the validation of GOMOS onboard ENVISAT. During the commissioning phase around ten coincidences per site have been investigated. No significant bias, larger than ±5%, has been reported except around 50 km and 20 km where both techniques are known to present some limitations. The estimated errors of both GOMOS and lidar are in good agreement with the standard deviation of the differences between coincidences. At higher latitude, comparisons are not so good because of the measurement conditions of bright limb during this period.

Review of ozone and temperature lidar validations performed within the framework of the Network for the Detection of Stratospheric Change.
The use of assimilation tools for satellite validation requires true estimates of the accuracy of the reference data. Since its inception, the Network for Detection of Stratospheric Change (NDSC) has provided systematic lidar measurements of ozone and temperature at several places around the world that are well adapted for satellite validations. Regular exercises have been organised to ensure t...

The vertical structure of the terrestrial atmosphere is governed by hydrostatic equilibrium, which relates altitude, temperature, and pressure (or density). The mixing ratios derived for the chemically important trace gases depend on a precise knowledge of this basic atmospheric structure. The Bonn University backscatter lidar on the Esrange (68N, 21E) near Kiruna, Sweden, was operated from mid...
متن کاملGOMOS ozone profile validation using ground-based and balloon sonde measurements
The validation of ozone profiles retrieved by satellite instruments through comparison with data from groundbased instruments is important to monitor the evolution of the satellite instrument, to assist algorithm development and to allow multi-mission trend analyses. In this study we compare ozone profiles derived from GOMOS night-time observations with measurements from lidar, microwave radiom...
متن کاملValidation of Gomos Products Using Salomon Algorithms and Data
The UV-visible spectrometer SALOMON, dedicated to the retrieval of vertical profiles of O3, NO2 and NO3, has performed measurements on 19 September 2002, from Aire sur l’Adour (France) between 20h00 and 22h30 TU. At the same time, an ozone sounding has been launched. GOMOS has performed measurements at 21h24 UT, with a spatial coincidence with SALOMON and the sounding of around 250 km. Then, al...
